Meet Dr. Krista

Growing up in Southwest Georgia, Dr. Krista Cox Hinchey holds southern living close to her heart. Dr. Krista is now happy to call Savannah her home. Dr. Krista’s husband, Paul, grew up in Savannah and now they both are excited and grateful to be able to raise their family in this charming city.

Dr. Krista completed dental school at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta in May 2011. Upon finishing dental school, she completed her pediatric dental residency at MCG as well, under the name of Georgia Regents University. At this program, she completed training at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite and Egelston. From this training, she gained a wealth of knowledge in special needs patients. In September of 2015, she became a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Krista is one of the few pediatric dental providers in the Savannah area to receive board certification in her field, assuring patients and their families that they will be receiving the best care possible. Dr. Krista is a member of the American Board of Pediatric Dentists, American Academy of Pediatric Dentists and the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentists.

Upon finishing residency in Georgia, Dr. Krista joined her husband, Paul M. Hinchey, in Nashville, Tennessee where he was completing the six - year M.D. Oral and Maxillofacial Program at Vanderbilt. During this time, Dr. Krista was an associate in a pediatric dental practice in the surrounding areas of Nashville from July 2011 until May 2017. During this associateship, she performed in-office oral conscious sedations and general anesthesia cases in a surgery center setting. Dr. Krista’s husband, Paul, has joined the Chatham Oral Surgery and Maxillofacial group here in Savannah.

When not at her office, Dr. Krista enjoys spending time with her family outdoors, whether that be on the beach or in the backyard.

Dr. Krista and her husband have a two year old little girl, Addy J, that keeps them on their toes!  They hope to welcome their second

child to the world this summer.

Dr. Krista and her team are dedicated to great dental experiences.

We, along with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry,

recommend you bring your child in by his or her first birthday.

During your first visit, you will be introduced to our Pediatric Dental Team, given an office tour and discuss your child’s unique smile and ways to keep it beautiful for years to come.

Depending on the age of your child, he or she will either be given a knee-to-knee examination (where your baby’s head will rest on our doctor’s knee while their body is on your lap) or a regular exam in the doctor’s chair.

We request that you complete our First Visit Forms prior to arriving for your appointment. This helps our office keep your and everyone else’ scheduled visit on time.

Your initial exam will last approximately 30 minutes. Oral hygiene instructions will also be given with suggestions to help your child care for their own teeth. In most cases, we will also clean their teeth on this visit, and provide an evaluation that will outline any existing dental problems and proposed treatment.

Please print and fill out our New Patient Forms.

Bring them with you at first appointment, Thank You.

Our Pediatric Dental Office What to Expect at the First Pediatric Dental Visit

Dogwood Pediatric Dentistry is located in the historic city of Savannah, Georgia. Our goal is to deliver the best possible dental care for infants, children, teens and kids with special healthcare needs. Our team will strive to make sure that your child has a positive experience while maintaining the highest standard of safety. There are some guidelines that help us keep the environment safe for us all.

During appointments we ask that other siblings remain in the waiting area under adult supervision.

Cell phones can be a tremendous distraction so we politely ask that you keep your cell phones off or in airplane mode. If you must take a call, we ask that you answer the phone outside the treatment and exam areas.

Pictures and camera phones are a great way to document your child’s first dental experience. However, there are times when this activity may not be appropriate. Please be courteous to other patients, parents and team members, and ask before taking pictures or filming in our office.

To help keep our office neat and clean for us all, no food or drinks are allowed.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation !!

Our afternoon appointments are for routine visits and older children requiring minor dental treatment.

We require a 48 hour cancellation notice.

Payment for professional services is due at the time dental treatment is provided.  This includes deductibles

Pediatric Dental Topics:

Establishing Your Child’s Dental Home

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry encourages parents and other care providers to help every child establish a dental home by 12 months of age. Establishing a dental home provides some key components to dental care for your child including...

Comprehensive oral health care including acute care and preventive services.

Individualized preventive dental health program based upon
a caries-risk assessment.

Anticipatory guidance regarding growth and development.

Plan for acute dental trauma (emergencies).

Dietary counseling.

Referrals to dental specialists when care cannot directly be provided within the dental home.

Referral at an age determined by patient, parent, and
pediatric dentist.

A Pediatric Dentist like, Dr. Krista, is a specialist dedicated to the oral health of children and the monitoring of their facial growth and development. Our office is designed for treating children from infancy through adolescence, as well as the medically and the physically compromised.

A pediatric patient not only has a different dentition than adults but he/she may have specific dental and behavioral needs that are unique to a child. These needs may include orthodontics, dental sealants, fluoride applications or home treatments, or just simply education in oral hygiene. In addition to treating existing dental problems, our office focuses on prevention through patient and parent education. We like to feel that you and your child do not come to our office to have their “cavities fixed” but rather to prevent them. Our office provides all of the educational tools necessary for our patients to enjoy a cavity-free future.

When a Pediatric Dentist is Board Certified it means that the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry or ABPD certifies that the dental care being provided is based on standards of excellence that lead to high quality oral health care for infants, children, adolescents and patients with special health care needs. Certification by the ABPD provides assurance to the public that a Pediatric Dentist like Dr. Krista has successfully completed accredited training and a voluntary examination process designed to continually validate the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to the delivery of quality patient care.
